Building confidence and expanding horizons

On this page you will find news and photos from 1st Class and 2nd Class, their teacher Mrs O’Mahony and their SNAs Louisa and Joanne.

In Meánranganna, students build on their foundation skills and develop greater independence. We encourage curiosity, collaboration, and creative problem-solving while maintaining a supportive and engaging learning environment.

STEM in 1st and 2nd - Bridge Building

The 1st and 2nd class engaged in STEM projects recently. STEM refers to an approach to learning and development that integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In groups, they constructed a variety of bridges such as arch, suspension and beam bridges. First, they planned their design and the materials needed to construct their bridge. They developed skills in problem solving and working together as a team. They had great fun designing and making these. Some pupils shared their own STEM projects from home.

We look forward to our next STEM project.

Cooperation

1st and 2nd snapped enjoying playing some cooperative games during break!

First Confession

Well done to all of our children who made their First Confession recently.

Magnet Fun

1st and 2nd enjoyed playing with magnets and learning about their properties, all as part of their Science curriculum.

Lego Spike Essential

1st and 2nd have moved on to Lego Spike Essential kits. The kits form part of the Lego Education suite of resources. The children are lovingthis experience. It's just the right combination of challenge and fun. The activities are themed and can be linked to the pupils' learning in Science and Geography.

Beebots in 1st and 2nd

We have begun using Beebots ins na meánranganna. We code them to move and set challenges for each other. Coding and robotics support the use of mathematical language and problem-solving. They also facilitate cooperation and connection with our classmates as we code together. Most importantly, playing with Beebots is lots of fun!

Maths - Active Learning

We enjoyed some active learning in Maths recently. Hands on activities support problem-solving and thinking skills. They also align with the New Primary Maths Curriculum. Click on the photos to view in full size.
